Goals for 2010

1.  Lose 20 lbs (just started a diet-ish eating plan and work out regime - we shall see how that goes)

2.  Read a book a month and listen to at least one a month in the car

3.  Knit 6 pieces this year for me (started on #1 during the holidays - so far so good)

4.  Keep up the blog...

5.  Spend more time planning meals and making new foods (love my new slowcooker cookbook)

Frogging and New Patterns

Well I have officially abandoned the Lace and Cable Cowl - not the pattern's fault - it was the yarn. Too itchy and there are small flecks of lint that are constantly coming off the yarn. For someone who primarily wears black, we were in for some issues. I haven't ripped it out yet, but it is already forgotten sitting in a bag. Will find another more suitable yarn for me and knit it later.

So, in frustration with my itchy yarn, I started another project. Forecast - from Stephanie Japel - this was published in Knitty back in 2005 and I really liked it, but just had so many other projects. It was not until I saw all of the cool modifications people made to it on Ravelry that I decided to cast on. Ravelry is so great for finding new little ways to make your knits fit and look better - it is really the only place I ever look for patterns anymore.

I am using a nice creamy colored wool blend with a strand of brown through it, so it is looking great.  Maybe tonight I will get some pictures, but so far so good!

Reading and a Busy Week

Well, tonight will be my first evening home this week, and I am happy for that.  Have been spending a lot of time at my office in Nanaimo ths week, and look forward to dinner at a reasonable time and bedtime with the little guy.

Since I have been driving a lot, I was able to listen to the rest of The Lovely Bones by Alice Seybold.  It was recommended to me a bunch of times when it was first released, but it never made it onto the reading list.  Well, I had no clue what the book was about - so when I started it and within the first chapter, a young girl was raped and murdered, I was a little surprised.

Regardless, it was a very interesting book.  I am sure that I will watch the movie when it comes to video to compare!

Weekend Wrap Up

Well it is getting close the end of another weekend.  Rainy again, but summer is slowly going to get here, so I shouldn't complain.

Worked quite a bit on the Cabled Cowl Sweater.  Still worried about the itchyness of the wool - will definately need a long sleeve shirt underneath.

Spent a bunch of time working this weekend.  Have a BIG proposal due this week so I spent some time working at home and in the office.

I am there so often that I stop noticing things, like the great photos I have of of Carson over my desk.  One of the girls also made a cool piece for my office - my company does graphic design so the piece has our branding on it with a photo of Carson in the middle.

Cute little buddy :)

Progress

I haven't been knitting much, but have made some progress on the Chic Cable Cowl from Sweaterbabe.

This is what the final product should look like...

I am knitting it in a similar shade of Rowan Shetland Chunky.  It is a little itchy - so I decided to make the short sleeved version and wear a long sleeve top under it - hopefully that will work.

Hope to have some time this weekend to make some more progress - would just like a weekend to myself so that I can knit/read/relax, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

On the up side - I have a pedicure booked tomorrow, so I will make sure that I bring my book and get a bit of reading done.

Thankfully, I do get some downtime in the car during the week.  I typically spend 6 hours in the car a week, so I listen to a fair number of books.  Currently I am listening to "The Lovely Bones".  It is terribly sad, but I am enjoying the story.  I really like reading the book and then watching the movie, although I should probably do it in reverse, as I am ofter disappointed with the lack of content in the movie.

Off to the grocery store - trying to be more organized for the week - then maybe I will have some spare time :)

First Post

Well it's a new year and I am attempting to start another new blog. I have had some success in the past, mostly about my obsessive crafting and knitting hobbies.

Last year I had less time to do that sort of thing due to the business of my toddler.

On top of that I bought into the company I worked for and my workload exploded.

So I do what I can when I have time and try to find some balance.

Here is my goal list for this year.
